Learning Community

Learning communities are core elements of the CIRTL structure. The national CIRTL has several learning communities that one can join online. Current Learning Communities through CIRTL national can be accessed here: https://www.cirtl.net/communities.

Examples of learning communities for CIRTL national include:

  • Teaching in the United States
  • Academic Careers & Job Postings
  • Addressing Issues of Gender and STEM Education
  • Partners in Teaching & Learning
  • Equity in STEM for All Genders Community of Practice
  • Online, Blended & Technology-Enhanced Teaching

The CIRTL Director at UMBC will develop learning communities on UMBC’s campus. These will include discussion sessions, coffee hours, and luncheons. Topics will consist of “teaching as research” areas, and participation in the learning communities will assist with completing credentials for the UMBC CIRTL certificates.

UMBC’s CIRTL Learning Communities include:

  1. Foundations of Teaching
  2. Methodologies and Practice
  3. Career Preparation

In-person sessions to facilitate learning communities will be announced on the MyUMBC page for CIRTL at UMBC.
